Spring

Spring's traditional late arrival in Stowe provides an interesting array of diverse activities for area visitors to enjoy.

Our traditional "sugar on snow" celebrations in April, while meant to signal the coming together of winter and spring, are not quite able to make winter go completely away. There is usually enough snow remaining on the mountain throughout April to offer the avid skier a last opportunity to enjoy some shirtsleeve runs, while folks in the valley are stocking up on locally produced Vermont maple syrup, out strolling on the recreation path, heading off for a round of golf on some of the area's courses or renting in-line skates or mountain bikes for that first adventure of the season.

Willy Dietrich, our favorite fishing guide, has packed away his ice fishing gear and is busy showing folks where to find those big trout our area (and Willy) are famous for.

Fishing in the many rivers and streams in the Stowe area is a great way to pass a lovely spring day.
The warm winds of May signal the beginning of all outdoor activities and June finds us looking forward to the annual Canoe & Kayaking and Stowe Flower and Garden festivals; the weekly events at the Shelburne Museum; one of those guided canoeing or kayaking tours provided by Umiak (a local outdoor adventure company); hiking; tennis; gliding and of course, more biking and golf.

We also mustn't forget once the snow has left and the road through Smuggler's Notch is once again open, Montreal, one of the world's most beautiful cities, is only a little more than an hour and a half away by car and well worth a visit.
